A Night Out

Previously, we talked about how to do a natural look with your at-home airbrush makeup. But now we are going to talk about how to do a more glamorous look for going out or just when you want tofeel more spectacular than usual.

Always Start Fresh

As we always say, it’s better to start your makeup routine with a fresh, clean face. Make sure you have washed your face and added any treatments you might need (acne medication, retinols, etc.) Your makeup will adhere better and stay longer with a face free of oils and dirt.

Apply a good moisturizer and primer. Our moisturizing primer is great for this step. You want to make sure the makeup stays worry free as you go about your plans.

Choosing the Right Shades

Start with any spots or areas that need concealing. Use a lighter shade of foundation than you usually use to spot cover any acne or scars you want to eliminate. Also use this shade to cover any dark patches or under eye shadows. For fine lines and wrinkles, apply the Minus-10 to fill them as best you can and then apply the concealer shade.

Once any problem areas are covered and the makeup has dried, apply your foundation as usual. If you normally use a more matte foundation, maybe try the Silk or Satin formulas for a softer, dewier finish. You want to look dramatic, not harsh.

Blush, Bronzer or Both?

Generally, a more natural look would involve a minimal amount of blush, but for a more exotic evening look, you want to use blush (or bronzer) on your cheeks to give them more definition. You can also decide to contour your face using the bronzer (or a shade of foundation that is a couple levels darker than what you usually use).

Dramatic Eyes or Mouth, Not Both

You might be able to pull off the deep red lips and the smoky eye, but generally it’s best to play up one feature and not both. If you want to focus on your mouth, then go lighter on the eye makeup and vice versa.

A dramatic mouth can be everything from deep red to the currently popular tangerines and plums. Just make sure you apply a long-lasting lip – you don’t want to be worrying about whether your lipstick has worn off. Pair this look with a more natural look on the eyes – eyeliner and mascara are great, but a more subtle approach to your lid color is recommended.

If you decide to make a smoky eye or use strong color, a more natural lip looks best. A softer color closer to your natural lip color works best.

Final Touches

Once you have applied all your makeup and you are about to head out the door, there’s only a little more to do. If you want to want to keep your skin looking dewy, apply a fine layer of the moisturizing primer once more. Let dry and finish with the waterproof Final Seal. This will lock in everything including the moisture naturally in your skin.

What Does It All Mean?

Good morning, students! We are going to have an airbrush makeup vocabulary lesson. We know sometimes it’s hard to know what makeup artists, beauty pros and others are saying when they talk about a stylus or bronzer. So we are going to go over some of the terms most commonly used in airbrush makeup.

Heiress Airbrush Makeup System

Compressor

When you get your airbrush makeup system, you will find in that package a small squarish box that fits in your hand. It should have a hose connected to it and a place to plug in the electrical adapter. It might be pink, silver, black or other colors. It will also have a power button. This is your compressor. This is the power behind the airbrush system.

Connected to the compressor are the electrical adapter (the electrical plug), the stylus and hose and the stylus holder.

Airbrush Makeup Stylus

Stylus

The stylus is the pen-looking thing connected to a hose. It has a several parts to it. The tail is the solid back piece. The cup is where you place the drops of airbrush makeup. The button just behind the cup is the throttle or trigger. The front of the stylus is the nozzle and inside the nozzle you can see the airbrush needle.

Airbrush Makeup

Airbrush makeup is makeup that is specially formulated to be used by an airbrush machine and that will give you that professional airbrush look. It is meant to used a few drops at a time. It can include foundation, body makeup, eyeshadows, blush and bronzers. It can also include self tanners.

The airbrush makeup from Luminess is water-based, oil-free, preservative-free and noncomedogenic. It is also never tested on animals.

Contouring

Using different shades of makeup on your face to tweak your look is contouring. This could mean you use darker shades of foundation or bronzer to darken the hollows of your cheeks and the edges of your face to make it look slimmer and your cheekbones more pronounced. It could mean using a highlighter around your deep set eyes to make them appear more noticeable. These kinds of tricks are part of contouring your face.

Bronzer vs. Blush

Blush is something you apply to your cheeks to make your skin have more dimension and give you that healthy flush that looks great on everyone. Bronzer also gives your skin dimension, but it can be applied all over for a great glow like you have just been in the sun, or can be used as a blush or to shade part of your face (contouring).

Light to Full Coverage

Flawless Beauty

Light coverage is when you apply the airbrush makeup very lightly, giving you a sheer color, almost like a tint. Full coverage is when you apply the makeup to that it covers flaws and is more opaque. The lighter the amount of makeup, the more natural it will look.

The Eyes Have It

You have the at-home airbrush makeup system of your choice. You have the color-matched foundation shades and the beauty essentials. You are getting pretty good at applying a full face of long-lasting foundation. But you are wondering how to handle small areas, like around your eyes.

It might seem like it’s hard to get those real fine details with the airbrush stylus since it covers a wide area so quickly.  But one of the benefits of the stylus is that detail work is possible.

How Do I Cover Under Eye Shadows?

There are lots of options for this issue, so it’s just a matter of finding what works for you.

A Range of Foundation Shades

Use a shade lighter than your regular foundation as a concealer. Put just a couple of drops in the stylus and then bring the stylus closer to your face than when you apply the foundation. Treat the stylus like a pen and lightly apply the foundation under your eyes.

If you are having trouble getting the makeup close to your eyeline, try closing your eyes when you apply it, being sure to spray over and around the lash line (the foundation will get on your eyelashes, but you can wipe it off or just apply mascara over it).

Eye with No Makeup

You can also try putting just a drop of the airbrush foundation on your fingertip or a cotton swab and press it gently under your eyes.

Boost-It would also work well here, since it can help soften those shadows, while the Minus-10 can help fill in crows feet.

How Do I Cover Under Eye Wrinkles?

Speaking of under eye wrinkles, airbrush makeup can really help with those, too. Start with the Minus-10 gel. It will help smooth and fill in those fine lines around the eyes. It also finishes silky so your foundation will go on smoother.

If you have a couple of deeper lines, you can take a creamy concealer and press it gently into the creases, filling them in a bit. Then proceed with your makeup as usual.

BONUS TIP: The main thing to remember when trying to cover wrinkles is to make sure you don’t make any faces. Make sure your face is relaxed as you apply your makeup, or everything will shift and settle strangely and you won’t get the coverage you want.
